Thoughts on Your Opt-in List Form
by Jim Bruce
An opt-in list has many benefits to the internet marketer. Your internet business should strive to obtain personal information on your web site visitors so that you can keep in touch and follow up with future information and products they would be interested in. The larger the list you are able to develop of targeted prospects and customers, the better off you will be. Ensure that you offer your opt--in or subscription details in a prominent position on your main web pages. Entice people to join your list by explaining to them the benefits they will receive. Benefits are what make visitors sign up. To avoid misunderstandings and high opt-out rates, ensure that your potential opt-in list members knows what they will be getting. Tell them how often they will be receiving emails from you. If you publish ads between issues, tell them and give them the opportunity to choose the newsletter and ads or just the newsletter. If they've opted in for specific product information, be sure you explain to them that you will only send emails sporadically when you find out about new, relevant products or information that is specifically related to what they requested. You want to make sure that you will not clutter their inbox with spam. A key way to let potential subscribers know what to expect is through a privacy statement. Most people are concerned about what you will be doing with their email address. Reassure them that you will only be using it for your newsletter and not letting others have access to their details. Always make it clear how they can unsubscribe or opt-out. When you receive unsubscribe requests, act on these promptly. Best yet, have your autoresponder do it for you. To do otherwise will not enhance your online reputation or the trust of your subscriber. Don't be too aggressive in obtaining email addresses as this can often backfire on you. I was visiting a site recently to download a free e-book on marketing techiques. Before I could download this ebook, I had to enter my email address. No indication was given as to what my email address would be used for. I chose not to give my address and name. I did not download the e-book. You can empathize with that. You can feel the circumstance I was in. What would you have done? Think about how you would feel and you will find yourself writing the copy of your opt-in list form. Answer your visitor's fears as to why not to submit the form and you will get more visitors to submit. But ask them for very little information about themselves. The key to the opt-in list is the form you use to collect the visitor's personal data.lies in asking for only their first name and email information. That is unless more is needed and that isn't the usual case. Most visitors will not submit your form if more information is needed. We humans are a private bunch as it be. Be sure to have a privacy statement with your form. Tell them that you won't use their information for any malicious purpose. You won't sell it, you won't give it away, you respect their right to privacy. You will only use in to give them the information or product they requested. Give your web site visitor the information they request while aleaving their fears of submitting your form. Show them the benefits of submitting your form to recieve their request while relieving the fear that you might spam them in return. Keep this simple and to the point. Your visitor will respect your honesty. The development of your own opt-in email list can be a key factor to the success of your online business. Remember to treat it as your number one online real estate and to act in the interests of your opt-in subscribers. Through doing this, you will develop a loyal and trustful list of people who are willing to buy from you again and again as well as refer you to their friends and business colleages. .
